Wonderful staff. I had travelled a long way for my mothers funeral and as a result of a misunderstanding with the undertaker it looked likely that my rail tickets would take me away before the ashes could be scattered. The crematorium staff, though, put themselves out to ensure the event went without a hitch and thanks to them I will always remember it as a moving moment.
Opened in 1902 it was built in the last years of the Victorian Era. It is a very large cemetery and is Leicesters main crematorium carrying out over 3,000 cremations a year and has some 130,000 souls buried or scattered there.Very large place but you can drive in and around and the main building, well the only building really is a Lutyens like edifice but well in keeping with the place. My mother and father in laws remains are scattered there. He was Polish and fought in WW2 in England in the Polish free air force she was German, lived through the war in Berling and came to England after the war. May they both rest in peace.
I recently lost my Mum and the service was held here at Gilroes. The lady who performed the service went far above and beyond anything we could have hoped for. I say service..... it was more a celebration of who and what my Mum was and stood for. The information given to help build the picture of Mum probably didn't fully explain her but the lady captured the uniqueness and character perfectly. My heartfelt thanks for a truly worthwhile send off.
I have had a number of funerals there and all have gone well x
I have just been to my mum's funeral and they could not do enough to make sure everything was fine. And the day went aswel as it could..thankyou to all of the people there
